Return of Irish dance summer camp!

by Esme Morris

Hello! My name is Esme Morris, I am a junior in high school, and I have been dancing for over nine years. One of my favorite memories as I grew up with McTeggart was the summer camps. I remember meeting some of my best dance friends during the summer, and it was during that camp that I felt like I truly became part of the McTeggart family. At this camp, a little eight year old me was able to become a leader. I remember teaching those at the camp who were new to Irish dance, and I felt just as cool as the older girls. We did so many fun activities, from designing our own solo dresses to choreographing steps all on our own. We even had paper plate awards at the end of the week, and I can still vividly recall my excitement when I was awarded the “Teach a Friend” plate.

I wanted to start this camp back up again to revive the joy I felt when I attended as a beginner dancer. I would love to see current dancers fall even deeper in love with this sport and get the opportunity to become leaders. I also believe that this camp is great for kids who would like to try out Irish dancing and get to know our McTeggart community. It is entirely stress free, and our only goal is to make it fun! I only have about a year until I move away to college, so I really want to soak up all of the Irish dance experience I can. I hope to see so many of our dancers this summer and get to know everyone!
