The McTeggart Adult Irish Dance program offers classes for adults of all ages and dance levels, from complete beginners through advanced dancers.

Style of Dance

At McTeggart Kentucky, we offer two different ongoing adult dance programs: Irish dance and Sean Nós dance. To learn more about our Sean Nós program, click here. While Sean Nós dance is lower to the floor and lower impact, Irish dance is danced in relevé, or on the balls of the feet, with higher impact movements (hops, jumps). If this is your first experience with the diverse world of Irish dance, we’d encourage you to try both styles!

Free trial classes

We periodically offer free trial classes for potential new students. Click here to learn more and register. Stay tuned here and on our social media for information about free trial classes and more: www.facebook.com/mcteggartky, www.instagram.com/mcteggartky

Trial Classes include a meet-and-greet with instructors, a mini introductory dance class, information about how to enroll in classes, and time for Q&A about the McTeggart Irish Dancers and Irish dancing in general. For the free class, please wear comfortable, non-binding clothes (modest athletic shorts are preferred), and supportive shoes. If you own ballet slippers or jazz shoes, you are welcome to wear them, but there is no need to make a special purchase.

SCHEDULE

At this time, adult beginner classes are on Mondays, 6:00-7:00pm ET. We also offer adult intermediate and adult advanced classes. If you have previous Irish dance experience, please contact us to inquire about options available to you and class placement.

Other costs

Beyond classes, our students have opportunities to perform and compete. Performances and competitions are entirely optional. We provide a consignment shoe closet for students to buy used shoes, and our beginner adult costume is a simple black dress for women or black slacks and a black button-up for men. There is no cost to participate in performances; that’s a free value-add for our students. To pay for the facility for our annual recital, we do charge admission fees for tickets ($6 to $8 per ticket). As a students progress, they may participate in competitions. There are competition entry fees and either rental fees or purchase costs for Irish dance costumes. But, that’s a ways down the road! For beginners, we keep costs low and want to make Irish dancing as accessible as possible.
